[edit] Design Patterns/Principles

First, I have used the design principles or common design wisdoms of iconic representation (danger icon) and classical conditioning (lady screaming) at the top of the poster to capture one’s attention. To speed up one’s visual processing of the information presented on the poster, I have minimized the amount of texts and substituted them with pictures and icons. These pictures and icons serve to represent the higher-level goals of the course so that the focus of the target student will be on those goals. In addition, because the main objective of the poster is to make the course noticeable to a student, I have also incorporated preattentive visual processing by making the text “IEOR 170” bold. Furthermore, I have kept the overall presentation consistent by using the same color, font, and style for texts that provide similar information. For example, concepts that will be learned in the course are presented in red, arial font, size 16.
