From IEOR 170 Spring 2007
Wow, I’m still sorta stuck between the dueling tension and relief present in my work, so it might be difficult to comment too much on it without betraying the piece itself. First off, I’d like to give a thanks to my collaborators over at http://seeitornot.faketrix.com/content/thrash-pics/page3/originals/mountain-bike-crash-cycling-accident-picture.jpg for the picture. The picture really delivered the statement I wanted to make about design: when neglected, it leaves a product's user as vulnerable as a bike being navigated by a man with only one leg (it also included a subtle commentary about the disparaging collapse of civil socioeconomic structures in the Rhineland). The picture also appeals to my targeted group: young college students, with big HEARTS, and ready to design for a more noble cause. I really thought that the red font both catches the eye and instills a sense of urgency in the viewer. And although the picture reads ominous and bleakly tragic, hope lies within the heart -- with which the biker may soon collide, if the reader enrolls in IEOR 170! The juxtaposed white font sitting peacefully within the nurturing heart is just ready to catch the biker and make the world a better place. The poster will attract and encourage the most motivated students to enroll in IEOR 170. The heart also has some pretty cool 3-D effects which will probably attract gamers.
